Army CA, AF COOL, MyCAA, and ArmyIgnitED are the government funding programs that pay for your Master I.T. training. Here's how each one works.
ArmyWhat is Army CA (Credentialing Assistance)?
Army Credentialing Assistance is an Army funding program that pays for training and exams that lead to civilian certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+. It's available to Active Duty, Army Reserve, and National Guard Soldiers, and it renews every fiscal year (October 1 to September 30).
You request it through your ArmyIgnitED account. CA and Tuition Assistance share the same yearly pool, so if you've used TA this fiscal year, that affects what's left for CA.
Master I.T. is an approved Army CA provider, and your exam voucher is included in your Master I.T. quote.
Ask your education center about any service obligation tied to TA or CA for your status so there are no surprises.
Air ForceWhat is AF COOL?
Air Force Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (AF COOL) is a Total Force enlisted funding program that pays for industry certifications for Airmen and Guardians. It has a lifetime cap of $4,500 per member.
To use it you need:
- An AFVEC profile (that's where you create your AF COOL goal and apply for funding)
- A 5-skill level in your primary AFSC
- Good standing (no UIF, not on a control roster, current on fitness)
When you apply, your supervisor gets an email to validate your eligibility.
SpousesWhat is MyCAA (SpouseWorks)?
My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) is a Department of Defense funding program for military spouses. It provides up to $4,000 total toward a license, certification, or associate degree in a portable career field, with up to $2,000 per fiscal year.
Eligibility is based on your service member's pay grade and is checked automatically against DEERS when you log in. You'll see a green check if you're eligible. Pay grade eligibility has been expanded in recent years, so if you were told no before, it's worth checking again.
IT certifications are one of the most portable careers there is. The skills you build in the Master I.T. Training Program move with you every PCS, and remote roles are common.
Army CiviliansI'm an Army civilian employee. Which funding program do I use?
Army civilians request training through ArmyIgnitED. The request uses an SF-182 form, and your supervisor approves it.
Certifications like Security+ can help you meet job requirements and position yourself for GS advancement. On your session, Master I.T. walks through the request with you, and your supervisor just needs to digitally sign when the email comes through.
